Whats the point of the A to M near the gear shift on an automatic?

If you mean what does it do, it locks the transmission in gear. Meaning if you press the "M" button and move the gear to second, for instance, it will remain in second. Put it in 1st, and it will stay in first till you shift to 2nd...get the picture....."M" =manual...hope that helps and was what you were asking.

To add and elaborate futher...

If you press M and you put it in 2nd, you will not only stay in 2nd, but you will also start off in 2nd. This helps in the snow as stated in the manual.

Be very careful you don't accidently hit M while driving in the city. You could end up trying to take a left in heavy traffic starting out in 3rd or 4th gear and your car will dog really bad and could end up not making that "timed" left turn and end up in a wreck.
