View Full Version : Supercharger Pulley questions

I'm considering going from a 3.125" pulley down to a 2.87" pulley. $60 from Vortech.

Here's my question. Does Dinan use a standard Vortech part number for their supercharger pulleys? Can I just slap a new pulley on?

How do you tighen/loosen the bolt?

I gotta measure my pulley sizes. The V-1 and the V-2SQ are geared differently! doh. the V-1 does 38K rpm (impeller speed) and the V-2SQ does 40K rpm, for the same pulley sizes. Of course, this doesn't mean a V-2SQ makes any more or less boost. that depends much more on impeller design, etc... I bet that they make the same boost at those rpms, because the V-2SQ is so much quieter. I took a tape measure out and measured my supercharger pulley, and it appears to be about 3.25" which would equate to a 38K rpm impeller speed. I'll get more measurements later on tonight.

Paul, are you sure you have a V1? How loud is your blower? The V-1 blowers I've heard are REALLY loud.

I don't think I can give a direct answer as it seems that I have exactly the same question. But if you want you could take a look to my thread (Increase pressure in SC) where Beau said something about this pulley change.
I hope you find something useful there.

Kit, didnt you post earlier that your sc pulley was 3.43? Did you take a better measurement since then?

I guess your other post WAS the more recent measure, so until I hear otherwise, I'll assume those ratios I worked out stand, and your move to a different pulley will put you at 9.5 psi.

Re Vortech versions, I honestly dont know...Ive even heard you cannot tell from the badge, as many of the early V2s carried the V1 badge according to either RMS, Dinan, or Vortech, I cant remember which. From the noise level, I cant even hear it now...But that could be because I've gotten 'adapted' to it. But I'll tell you this...I used to have a '95 Volvo 850 Turbo, and, it was MUCH whinier than my Vortech...Passengers not used to the car woudl always think a Cop siren was after us during their first rides...Thats NEVER happened with my Vortech. So, who knows...
