Back in the 70s I had a Capri and a good friend had a 76 2002. We were both in competition to mod our cars as much as possible. Since I had a 2.8 liter V6, I always had him on power, especially after I had the engine built with an Isky cam, Offenhauser manifold, Holley 4barrel, headers, etc. He was running a 300 degree cam, Webers, headers. Check out our cars -- we were ahead of the curve on lower/stiffer springs, big antiroll bars, delrin bushings, camber plates, black out trim, etc, oh yeah and awesome lighting with the Cibies running 100w bulbs! These pics were taken in 1978!:D :D

Yeah, I lucked into them on a big sale that a place in Atlanta was doing back then (that's why they're different types, Rallye bucket on passenger side and an LS on driver's side). It just so happened that they matched the car color nicely. They later made their way into my Bavaria (http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/rdu/c/b/cbrans/pictures/Bavaria/Bavaria%20Summit%20Point%20%231.jpg) .

Please post some pics on your project. Way back in 1981 or so, there was a hugely detailed article on a total restoration of a 2002 in the Roundel. You may be interested in taking a look at that. I just conversed with my old 2002 buddy for the first time in years last week, and he still has this car! He has a goal of getting it back on the road by the end of 2002. Let's see some pics of your project :alright !

Here's where were at right now. We just built a wodden cart so we can roll it out of the garage and sand and do misc body work. It's basically down to a shell now. We plan on putting the full bilstein kit in and were shooting for 130 hp...:az: I have much better pictures somewhere...I'll see if i can find them.

Great pics! That looks like a fun project. I don't know of any sources for the parts you're looking for, but if I was in that position, I would call Ray Korman. I've known Ray for 20+ years, and he's a walking encyclopedia of BMW information (with a substantial background in 2002s by the way), so I'm sure he would know of some sources for you. He probably has as much knowledge of 2002s as anyone out there having raced and built so many over the years -- pic (http://www.kormanfastbmw.com/pr2002ra.htm) .

Do you have the Roundel articles from the early 80's on the 2002 restoration? They may be helpful for some ideas (but of course parts sources will be a lot different now  ).

The Capri has been long gone. I sold it in 1981 to a guy who appeared to appreciate it, but I think he probably trashed it  . I took the seats and wheel and transferred them to my Bavaria at the time (which is long gone too, sold in 1994, in a sale I will always regret, esp now that I'm getting a 3 garage house soon). Of course, I guess I regret all the cars I've owned and sold (except perhaps the play car I bought for a year, Dodge Omni GLH Turbo, back in 1985...it was just a beater for work travel while the Bav played garage queen, and man what a beater that thing was).
