Yesterday a rubbing noise started in my steering wheel when turning. Everything is working fine. I have not pulled the wheel off to check yet. Anyone have any suggestions? Have not checked out the Bentley yet!. What are things to watch out for when pulling the wheel off?

My e34 started doing this a few times in it's life and the BMW dealer just lubed it each time. Was good to go for another 30 - 40k miles.

The e39 has once I think.. same deal.

As far as I know it's the plastic pieces behind the steering wheel rubbing each other at times.

Happens to me whenever there is a big change in temperature... I guess the plastic expands and contracts or something. I learned to live with it.

Same here...I'm basically learning to live with it.

Only seems to happen when it's really cold.

Take a look at the following thread. I have the same issue. Lube has worked so far, but I intend to take the wheel off in the spring, clean it and lube from the inside.

I had a similar problem too and we tried lube but it came back and it tuned out i had a power steering fluid leak stright from the resevoir. Got that fixed...no more rubbing feeling. Check the fluid level. just in case
