Stuck Dipstick?

Seasons Greetings,

I recently purchased my first BMW :redspot

I'm almost embarrassed to ask my question, but here goes. I went to check
the oil level the other day, and I couldn't pull out the dipstick! I didn't want to force anything for fear of breaking something, but is there a release catch that has to be triggered? I checked the manual and it did not mention any special instructions. I also searched the Bimmerforum, but didn't find any direct hits..

Is my dipstick just stuck?

Give it a good yank... it's probably been in there a while since it was last pulled so it's probably just stuck.

I agree, it's probably just that the o-ring that seals it is sticking to the tube. Happens on my 525 all the time.

Mine's a bit tight too. I usually twist as I pull it.

I guess you don't check your oil weekly. :)

Thanks fellas for all the replies - Yep, the dipstick just needed a little
more convincing to come out. :mad I guess the dealer hadn't checked it for a while..

I check mine everytime I get gas and it's hard to get out each time. After I get it out, wipe it down, and push it back in for the check it comes out pretty easy... Until the next time...
