Do any of you use a club to lock your steering whee? The dealer told me I should not put any around it. True?

I use it... ocassionally.
I see u live in NY also. To me more security, the better. I don't see why not. Just becareful it doesn't make imprints or scratched up the steering wheel. In general the steering wheel lock isn't all that b/c people can't bend the wheel and overcome this security.

From what i HEAR they are harder to stea but I put nothing pass anyone. I think im gonna start using the one I have again. I usually part it on the street without it. And you are right. more security=better.

if you want true security, get a removable steering wheel.

Fuel Pump kill switch = ultimate. My cousin had one put in on his car and it's truly unbelievable...especially when the kill switch looks like the fog light switch :stickoutt

Get a good alarm with fuel and ignition cut. Try looking at the Clifford line of alarms with Black Jax car jacking feature and auto imobilizer.

You should be able to set a security code for your car. The fuel and ignition is cut off until you insert the correct code.

my car has a fuel cutoff from the factory... i have had my keyless entry not work a couple of times and I have been stranded. I can unlock the car with key and the alarm goes off and teh car will not start. I have to wait until the keyless entry starts working again to disarm the car. I lost my keys for about a week and a half a few months back and I couldn't drive my car... couldn't get the damn thing started and I yanked all of the alarm fuses as well as pretty much all the fuses to anything electrical in the car... I got the car started a couple of times but all accesories were off... no gauges, radio, wipers, lights, and it was incosistent.. i.e. it would start 1 out of every 20-25 times or so.

I actually have the option of having to put in a code before I can start the car. It's a part of the navigation system. I don't use it since I'm in a relatively safe location, but in a larger city I might.

if they want your car they will just tow it.

club is useless. you can just cut into the steering wheel and rip that thing off.
the e34's with obc have the nice <i>code</i> feature.

its basically a starter disable (not sure what it cuts). so you can't start the car until the correct code is punched in.
to set
1) have key in position 1
2) press code
3) enter 4 digit code of your choice (use same buttons as setting time)
4) press s/r to set the code
after you take your key out, the code button should light up red
to start car
1) have key in position 1
2) enter code
3) then you either push s/r or code, can't remember.
it's in the manual if you have one!

Clubs are useless. If someone wants to steal your car, the club offers very little resistance. A pipe can be slipped over one end and the whole thing snaps, or they can cut your steering wheel, which (despite what you may assume) is just a ring of shitty tube steel.
The one that locks your brake and clutch pedals is far harder to defeat, and is actually effective.
Keep in mind - you don't want ANYTHING that uses a small cylindrical lock. Kryptonite recently learned that they're easily defeated with a bic pen. Many club-like devices use similar locks - and if you can break it with a pen, you're kidding yourself if you think you're going to protect your car. Honestly, the code immobiliser built into the OBC is more than enough protection.

Actually...you can enter any number between 0000-9999. So if you have difficulty remembering a 4 digit number you can use...let's say...0001...which we all know to enter this numerical digit...just press the OBC's 1 button, once. :D
Or maybe it's just me that has trouble remembering numbers.... :eyecrazy

I was actually refering to this product here => http://www.surftilyoudrop.com/unbrakeable-autolock-pro.htm. . . its not perfect but neither is anything sle. Some use normal key holes and some use cylindrical locks. I imagine it would be pretty hard to get past this since you cant just hac saw through this one.

sorry for not making it clear. I drive a 98 528I. I will look into all these options. I will also take a look at the manual to see what it says.

I think it's important that you're all aware that even the code isn't full proof! It's common knowledge that to by-pass the code all you have to do is disconnect the battery along with a few other small steps. No, I don't know the specifics but I do remember it being mentioned around the place including at the dealer.
Having said this they would have to be pretty keen to go to this length. And if they are going to this length then there wouldn't be too much you could do to save your car anyway. The code feature is plenty for your average thief.

Wouldn't the microchip ID thing in the key prevent the car from being started anyway? or is that easy to bypass?
