I got the car for next to nothing and I am in the garage today changing the motor mounts because I was told the drivers was broken. Well I made the mistake of listening to the guy and jumped right in. Once I got in there and looked close at the problem I saw it was not the mount that was broken but the bracket on the frame itself that broke. I am now half way done pulling the motor which will be out tomorrow. I will weld the bracket back on then weld on braces to reinforce it. Then I will put my new motor mounts in and weeee.

While the motor is out I am gonna paint the engine bay black and pressure wash everything.

Battery is also going to the trunk.

Broken subframe is VERY common on 02's. Weld it back together, and then weld a steel "wrap" around it. That will assure it never nreaks again. Best to start with a new, never broken subframe though.

Here is the outcome..

its ugly and strong.. I beveled the broken part and subframe, welded it, ground it down, the put these 3 pieces on and welded them on.

I am just gonna spray the engine bay black and reassemble.

I cant seem to tell where that is. Do you have any shots from farther away? It looks like its near the steering box, and brake booster.

I can take pics a little further back (that quality sucks). yeah its right by the steering box. I actually took the box loose so I could get welder to all sides needing welded.

Ok getting ready to put motor back in. I still need to take care of the rest of body and areas around hood, front nose, grill, and rain tray but this is one step out of the way (considering its really just a subframe repair).
