I have a 99 328is. It has the M-Tech package too. I do not have seatwarmers. I was wondering, arent the E36 suppose to have heated mirrors or is it an option? Is there a way to turn them on?
Let me know, thanks
i think they come on with the rear window defrost.

option. Cold winter package.
i dont have them
They come on with the rear defroster
I live in Colorado and ice or snow on my mirrors has never been a problem. Seem worthless to me.

I have them on mine (Canadian Car = brrrr...). It's part of a cold weather package.
Actually, they are on ALL the time. They don't turn on with the rear defroster. You can literally feel the heat they give off. That's why they burn out from time to time. One of my mirrors is kind of flaking out and it's cold!
You are right! I just fixed my heated mirrors last week. I am working on a setup that
they will turn on with the rear defroster and then automaticlly turn off!

Kam,
When you say you fixed yours, did you replace the mirror glass (with the built-in elements) or repair just the heating elements?
That sounds great. Would you mind sharing your "mod" when you complete it?
I actually repaired the heating elements here is the link with pictures (at the buttom of the page)

I have to wait until winter is over because it's too cold in Ottawa to do anything like that ;)

Thanks Kam. Link was great!
I agree that Ottawa is definitely colder than Vancouver, but I used to live in Edmonton so the term "deep freeze" is familiar to me...

Sorry, there is no way to know if you have heated mirrors or heated locks unless you open them up and look for the tell tale heater element of a few extra wires. Also check your fuse box, if the spaces for the heated mirror and lock are open, chances are you dont have them. I'm nuts, so i took everything appart to make sure, I don't have them :(
