I thought you had T-Stars already without the covers?

i can give you the email of a guy that can import possibly just the rear wheels if you want. his prices are about what you would expect from someone who imports parts. from what i can tell he sells his stuff on ebay mostly.
i talked to him about importing a set of original 18" staggered M parallels (everything he gets is used so the prices aren't too bad). he said it could be like 1400-1600 for them. and he can get throwing stars for about 1200-1400 (stargered even)
if he doesn't have it and you want him to get it. he said it can take up to a month or two.

why do the staggered setup? why not just get 9" wide in all 4 corners?

Because that was the factory setup. And they will look awsome. :D
MaloventEvil

but i mean, are there any disadvantes to using 9's all around?
Mblaster
12-17-2004, 10:28 PM
Shouldn't really be a prob but do you really want that much tire up front?
255's all the way around just doesn't seem right. I think Shragon has 245's all the way round. That seems right. Not sure what width he's using but prob 8 or 8.5. I gonna just get 2 new 255's for the back. I'm currently running 235's all the way round on 8.5in rims.

Make sure there's enough meat on that bone... 275/40-17 fits nicely on the 9":

exactly.
I don't quite understand the staggered thing. E34s understeer like a bitch as it is. I know most of us have sway bars to defeat that, by staggering don't we kind of defeat the purpose of our sways? Really, is there any reason to stagger? I suppose some cars (M5s and FI 540s) need the extra tire to put the power down, but are there real advantages to running a staggered setup on most E34s?

My concern too as I "drive"my car frequently in the canyons.
Running sticky 235's all around the car is very predictable and easy to catch.
Though the Dinan suspension w/camber kit has dialed most of the understeer out. Currently the car is quite neutral w/ only a hint of push when entering corners imbalanced. The 245/275 setup will prob make the car a bit more twitchy so I'll need an auto-x or 2 to get the feel of the limit again. I think w/ that much sticky rubber on the back oversteer will be a little further out there but somewhat harder to control. Reason to stagger, well it sure will look cool :cool

Those are the exact sizes you should use.
Normally, you will not have any problems... the only time you might have a slight issue is if your rear subframe is off-center. This is common and nothing to be worried about, but it may cause an inside fender rub if you are using a "thick" brand of tire (some brands are wider than others in a given size). A small 3mm spacer usually cures all of those problems.

When running a performance suspension in the E34, oversteer is more prevalent. You get understeer with a base E34 suspension and tall-sidewall tires simply due to the suspension and sidewalls flopping over. With a lowered car and swaybars around the M5 size (or better yet, the Nuburgring package on the Euro Touring), you can easily induce oversteer. For the larger-engined E34s, power-on oversteer is easy to produce and kicking the rear end out is easy. Even with the 275s in the rear, I have to use the power judiciously in an auto-x environment to avoid rotating the back end of the car around the front end. The larger rear tires help control this.
But for a much shorter answer, simply examine this concept: BMW fitted the staggered wheels to the later E34 M5s and 540s for a reason.

Yes.
Too large of a tire will cause steering issues, particularly tramlining and wandering. I don't feel there is any benefit to running larger than a 245 in the front, and a 245 only needs 8" of wheel width.
I do know some people that use 255s all around on 9" rims which can be good for track use... but that's a situation where real-world road conditions are not a factor.
If you run a larger-width wheel with a narrower tire, you get that "Euro trash" look with the wheel edge sticking out past the tire. That deforms the tire and degrades performance. Really, there's nothing I can't stand more than that "look" where performance is degraded for cosmetics. For some reason, I see that more on cars in Europe, where you would think they know better!
