hello everyone,

I got a question for you all, why can't i have Xbrace and Strut bar at the same time?

Other than the fact that in the collision that the engine has no way to go, what else?

I'm worry because I have that set up :(

Thanks,
-Tim

you should be fine. the xbrace will snap apart and drop the motor. I've destroyed 2 braces by breaking them on various things like man-holes. etc. they are designed to bust up at the welds...at least thats how the last two kicked the bucket.

the motor isn't meant to go up and over (strut bar). if it did, it'd be sititng in your lap.

There is no reason why you can't have both. It's the enforcment bar that the normal E36 have which you can't have with the x-brace.

You are confused. :confused

There are two different braces that are underneath.
Either the single bar or X-brace that is found on convertibles.
On non-convertibles you remove the single bar and replace it with a x-brace.

A strut bar or brace mounts on the strut towers.
You can use them together although it is debateable whether a tower strut bar does anything other than look pretty.

Actually somebody said this in the other thread about the x-brace and confused others. That's why they ask I guess

You can have x brace under, and strut bar on top, but not x brace under and original brace under the engine at the same time...

Correct. DO NOT REINSTALL THE SINGLE BAR .

Personally I like the look of chrome but since I don't have any tower brace I withhold my comments about strut bars only to say, it is debateable. ;)

I noticed a difference with the strut tower and the Xbrace (installed and tested seperately).

my car now handles like a dream :)

in a european car magazine from 2 years ago they said you can have the stock brace underneath AND the X-brace TOGETHER. i think they're wrong. anyhoo, tim you're good to run both the strut bar and x-brace. btw..where did you get the x-brace and how much?

when my vert was stock it had the underbody pan (same as x brace) and normal brace installed.

BMW did it from the factory... it's called the M3 Lightweight. X-brace and Motorsports strutbar.

but remember that both of those parts weren't actually installed in the car. they were in the trunk along with the wing.

I was under the impression that to have both is fine, otherwise NO verts could have strut bars fitted!
