I have a 97 M3/4 ...this morning I was leaving my house, tried to roll down my driver side window, it moved, then popped kinda loud. evidently it came of track or something. I can hear the motor going up and down if I push the switch either way. Has anyone ever had this problem? and if so, how hard is it to fix? dont want to pull all the panels off if I can't just put it back on the track. thanks for any input

OK this info comes from my adventures in my 93 325is.
The 2 door cars have a common issue with the plastic regulator arm pivots breaking. Fairly cheap part, and pretty easy to change once you get the panel off.
BUT, if you don't fix it right away, and continue to use the window, it WILL bend the window regulator arm. Now thats about a $350 repair.

There is a DIY in the E36 DIY that will help.
