Quick question about rear defrost button

I have a 90' 535 and had a question about the rear defrost button. When you press the button in should it stay in like the a/c and recirc buttons above itand come out when you press it again? I have the style button without the little light.

It releases back. Light stays on if defrost is activated. There is auto-off feature, timer is set for something like 10-15 minutes.
To turn it off press again, light goes off.

Well thats the deal mine doesn't have the light so I don't know if its on or off, but I'm going to assume that the 2 different style buttons opperate the same way. I might just switch it out with one that has a light.

Thats how it was in my 82 633csi but my 5 is nothing like that...you press it and it comes out and the light shows if its activated or not...

I have an 89 535i. My defrost button does not stay down like the other two but I believe it is suppose to be different since it automatically cancels itself off. I had to look hard but my indicator light does go on. It is just on the dim side. I notice my rear defogger works. I had the same concerns until the last storm.

Weird, my 87 535's defrost will go in and stay in, and the light will be lit lighter than normal (hard to tell). You have to push it in again and it will pop out and turn off.

Is my button just weird or something because it doesn't have a light on it to tell me off or on when I press it in. The only light it has is the backlight when the headlights are on. So I'm guessing just remember when I've pressed it in and it will automatically shut off.
