ur parting that car... what a shame...
I couldn't agree more. I'm going to be in Portland tomorrow afternoon, and might have to steal that baby for myself. Tony had promised me a drive in it before he sold it, so I might have to drive it straight back to Canada. What a waste to part a car like that, especially when he offered it for sale with a complete, rust free 320i donor body. I nearly bought it for a client, and we had planned to do just that, but his wife said no. Sorry to see it parted out. Uncool.

If you part that car, which seems perfectly workable 323i for cheap,
There are so few good ones left.
I am going to come over from Boston with my size 10 shoe and stomp your butt.
I had my car in the shop for 10 years, and it was a lot worse that car.

This is the first I hear of this....

It would have been 10x smarter to do that to a North American E21, rather than an already established 323i...

To few decent 323s around. Harvest from a 320.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're talking about an e21 323i being bought, some parts and the motor taken off/out of it for a race car, and then other parts and the motor from an e30 325i being put into it, right? If that is the case, you'll have to hunt your own @ss down Jonas, since your dad's 323i that you enjoy so much has the same thing going on inside of it.
What is REALLY wrong with doing this? It is just like doing a M50 motor swap on an e30. He never said he was buying it JUST to take the parts off of it and then dump the rest of the car at the junker. He is going to use the parts he's taking off AND build a decent car (by the sound of it) for a relative. CHILL OUT! It sucks that the car will not be in the state most people are use to seeing it in (with all the Alpina stuff on it), but the car has been sold to a new owner that wants the Alpina stuff for ANOTHER e21 323i and then doesn't have a need for THIS 323i. At least it's getting a new life!
Doug, if you don't understand whats going on then why the hell are you posting in here? Just leave...

Jonas, I DID understand....I just wanted to make sure that what I was reading was right. You all were slamming this guy for buying a car that ALREADY is going to have the Alpina stuff removed from it. He is not buying it TO remove the stuff. He is buying it to help keep it alive after it was bought BY SOMEONE ELSE as a parts car. He was trying to share the news with everyone here, and a lot of you were treating him like a POS for doing something that he hadn't done (he was NOT the one that took all the Alpina parts off). There are a few choice words I could say, but at this point the best advice I have for all of you is to READ A LITTLE CLOSER!!!!
1) The car is going to live on as a 6 cylinder e21 with the M20B25 motor from an e30.
2) The car is having (has already had) its Alpina parts removed by someone OTHER than rallysmurf, so blame that guy for 'parting' the car.
3) The car is not being parted out at all by rallysmurf, he is merely upgrading the powerplant and using the M20B23 in another car.
So if you all can't figure this out, maybe YOU are the ones that don't belong here.

Well I have a size 13 if we're going to make it a pissing contest. I've done nothing but battle with 2002 guys for parts off E21's. I've had no problem with it until now. Please don't chop up the car (which is what you're doing). And if you rallye that car, you are killing it. Dispite whatever some dudes bumper sticker says. The E21 community may be small, but what you're doing is like chopping up an E30 M3 to the E30 guys.

Swapping the powerplant is a crime. If the original motor runs, then I still think it's wrong.

O, gheesh more opinions. :help :rolleyes
i plan on rolling my 02, and using as many
02 cars as it takes ot keep her going.
i am not rallyeing that e21 pig. it is too hefty!
The motor is going to be in my 02 rallye car.
The brakes will come off eventually. It will get
some 318 replacement parts and a motor do be come
drivable again.

Nic, I don't REALLY want to argue with you (although debating is fun...), but an e21 323i isn't as rare as an e30 M3, at least in original production figures. They might be rare in this country, but not in the grand scheme of things.
The car IS going to be on the road again, and in the same mechanical form as Jonas' dad's car (motor wise), which a lot of us in the e21 community seem to like. Unless I have missed something in the description of the car, it was NOT an Alpina car, although it DID have many Alpina parts on it. But even so, those parts are being removed by the person that bought the car from velocewest and is SELLING it to rallysmurf. He is planning on taking out the M20B23 and putting in a M20B25, in much the same manner as people with e30's take out the M20B25 and install either a M50B25 or S50B30(US). I don't see how it is a crime if the older, 2.3L M20 isn't as clean or reliable in a daily fashion as the newer 2.5L e30 motor. But I guess this is more my opinion....and that of the owner of the car.
The 'damage' is already being done to the car by the person that rallysmurf is buying the car from. There is a person in between here folks. But even still, is there some pedigree on this car that I'm not seeing? If so, that is another story (since true Alpina cars are rare). But that doesn't look to be the case here, judging by the description of the car from Tricord's site.
Yeah, you know, Doug is there, and also seems to have mental powers so he can speak for this guy... so definately listen to him... :rolleyes

Yes you SHOULD listen to me since I am at least making sense! Not only am I actually looking at the facts, but I'm typing in coherent sentences.
Contribute, or STFU. Don't just whine about people not having the same opinion.
You expressed your opinion on why you thought it was wrong. Fine, although not the type of comments the guy was looking for. Then, the plans for the car are explained, detailing how the car is not going to be much different than what your dad own's, and you threaten the guy. When I then point out that everyone is over-reacting about what the plans are and that this guy is not the 'root of all evil' in that he is helping the car to live on AFTER the Alpina parts have been removed, you tell me to leave since you obviously didn't like what I was saying (ie the truth). The facts are then explained to you AGAIN in clear terms as to how this guy is NOT the one responsible for removing aftermarket Alpina parts from a run-of-the-mill 323i (although a very clean example) and you have nothing better to do than to fill up the thread with useless posts like the one above. There is a name for what you are....post whore.
I'm not saying to just shut-up, nor that your opinion is wrong. HOWEVER, you have given no PROOF as to why your opinion is right, nor why the plans for the car are wrong. Can you show me that it was an Alpina car? If so, then I would agree that parting it was wrong. Can you tell me that the e30 M20B25 motor has no place in an e21 323i? I doubt it since you love your dad's so much. If you can't come up with any good reasoning, then you SHOULD just be quiet. You have an opinion....back it up!!!
I'm debating the facts and all you can come up with seems to be "Meh" (in so many more words).
