i was driving down to fry's tonite to buy a fan for my computer. there was TONS of traffic on all of the highways (it was about 6:15pm). i took the 15S toward Aero Drive to get to fry's and at the exit right before aero i'm at a dead stop look in my rearview mirror to find someone barrelling toward me. i say "@#$%" and the next thing you know he slams into me at about 20mph. this pushes my car about 6 feet into the guy in front of me and bump him. he hit me so hard that my hat flew off and my seat got knocked back a few knotches. myself and the guy in front pull over to the highway/exit divide and put on our emergency lights. as i get out of the car to see if the guy is ok, the car that hit me zooms ahead and down the highway. i started to chase after him in traffic on foot because he doesn't pull to the shoulder when i realize i forgot to put on the e-brake in my car and it starts rolling. the guy that i bumped into saw him fly by as well but there was no way we could catch him. we did not get a make or model of the vehicle because he took off so fast, but it was a white car. i immediately call 911 where i'm waiting about 3-4 minutes before the operator picks up my call and report the accident. after dealing with them, i exchange info with the other driver and inspect the damage to both of our cars.

he had no visible damage to his rear bumper and says that i don't need to worry about his car. my front bumper is pushed back slightly and the hood does not fit flush, but my rear is all kinds of @#$%. the taillights are popped out and one is broken, the passenger rear quarter panel is bent (not sure about the drivers side, my bumper is finished and is rubbing into my rear tires, my exhaust is scuffed up and possibly bent, the piece between the bumper and trunk is totalled, the trunk lid itself is slightly bent and will not close now, the trunk area is all mangled up and it looks like my frame may be slightly bent. my neck and back are tweaked out of wack and i'm walking a bit stiff. my neck is especially sore.

anyway, needless to say, i'm a lotta bit pissed, but at this point, there's not a whole lot i can do about it. i'm gonna have to pay my deductible of about $500 for uninsured motorist insurance to either get my car fixed, or depending on what the adjuster says, to total it. i estimate that it will cost upwards of $6000-7000 to fix (on BMW hourly rates). it's an E36 M3 btw. hopefully somebody who saw the hit and run took down his license plate number and reported it. i will sue the guy if i ever find him. well, that was my night. i'll post pics once i take some.

That is really messed up man...sorry to hear that!

Seems to me that F*cker had his own reason to drive away like that; either he didn't have insurance nor a valid license. Hope you catch him!

It is pretty dark at 6:15 pm at this time of year which means that people have their headlights on and if they are behind you then it's pretty tough to tell what kind of car it is. Plus the shock of the situation and it's very understandable that the vehicle wasn't identified. Going to be very hard to get any sort of justice. Just hope the guy trips on a rock and hurts himself.

What a bummer man. Sorry to hear about it.

I'm a victim of hit-and-run also (although damage wasn't that bad). It fucking sucks just when I started to believe in people again, I'm reminded that people are for the most part worthless pieces of shit.

There's little to no chance of finding the guy, but don't beat yourself up over not catching any info on the car. The cops are useless anyways. I even found a Highway patrol officer within a minute of the incident, and instead of chasing down the guy he proceeded to waste my time and ask me if I had been drinking (fucking asshole). Of course by the time he would listen to what happened the perpetrator was long gone.

Sorry to hear.....hate to inflict more pain but if you have both rear fenders and trunk lid involvement you are looking at more like 12K to repair.

Cops are worthless, I was behind some drunk one night for a solid 15 minutes and called him in. This guy was weaving everywhere and couldnt stay on the road at all. Up ahead I saw a sheriff on the side of the road, stopped to tell him that the guy is wasted and weaving all over the place. He just told me that its been "called in" and that there will be a unit up ahead somewhere to get him. He wasnt even doing anything!! Worthless pigs :rolleyes

shit. there is a little bit of damage to the driver's side rear fender, but the passenger side is finished. the trunk does not close at all and was bent in with the bumper.

it was WAY dark at about 6:15pm and i was worried about pulling out safely and making sure that i didn't get hit while i was running around trying to help the other guy that got hit as well. i forgot the ebrake and found my car starting to roll so i had to get that as well. hopefully they only charge me the deductible to fix it. if they total it out, what would it be worth? what are E36 M3's with low miles going for these days? if possible i'd like to replace it, but otherwise i might have to go back to the honda civic route, which i'd HATE to do.

i've got an appointment with the doctor today so hopefully i'm not in too bad shape. however, my neck and back still hurt to move and it hurts pretty bad to lift my neck without support of my hands.

how many miles? Make them replace it if they want to total it.

my car has about ~67k for a '97 cosmos black M3 coupe.
