View Full Version : Any OBD2's had to do an FPR with the following...

M50 manifold
3.5" HFM
3.5" Intake

Exhaust

I had AA resocket my ECU and provide custom chip, but I'm getting this weird blip in the AFR. (Dyno/AFR Chart here... http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=283632 I have tried blending gas to 96 octane, new fuel filter, coils are ok. Car ran fine with perfect AFR on baseline dyno twelve days prior w/ Conforti SW and CAI. Car ran perfect with M50 installed 2 days later with Conforti SW. Add AA SW, 3.5 HFM, and 3.5 CAI and problem crops up. (Tried 3 different HFM's..problem still there)

So Karl at AA wanted me to get a duty cycle check in % done to see if injectors are maxing out, but no one in the SF Bay Area has the proper tool to do this...talked to Rennwerks, Dinan, Bavarian Motorsport, and Motorsport Techniques. They all have ability to get pulse width in millisecs, but not in %. In any event, he thinks I may need a different FPR, ala Dinan, etc

Bottom line question....Has anyone with an OBD2 car HAD to run the aftermarket FPR if you are not running cams??

Thanks,
MSH

hey mark, cross post this topic in FI also... might come up with some usefull FPR info..
Goodluck BRO

btw did you rule out the fuel sending unit ???

I have a FPR installed on my car with the following mods:

DINAN Stage IV Software
DINAN CAI
DINAN TB
DINAN HFM
DINAN Exhaust

The FPR that was used was the one that came with the DINAN HFM installation kit. I believe this mod is necessary since there is increased airflow, more fuel needs to be added into the mix so the car doesn't run lean. Some people say you don't need it, but I'd reather be safe than sorry.

Umm, if you know the pulsewidth in milliseconds, you can figure the %...

Check fuel pressure, static and under load, and FPR operation. FPR or FP may
be getting weak, can't deliver the necessary fuel at the correct pressure...

Just a thought.

Tell that to Karl Hugh....I already gave him the ms figure run by Ramon at Bav. Motro. He was the one that came back to me saying he would rather have it in %.If you can give me the appropriate math I will be sure to enlighten him.

Edit - Karl's response via e-mail after I gave him the results from Ramon's findings (21.1 ms @ 5800 RPM and it stays constant at that figure up to redline) was as follows...

"This is a bit helpful, but the injector opening time in % is key to what the fuel injectors are doing"

I'm assuming by Karl making that statement that figuring % is not so easy with the ms reading??

Even if your injectors are maxed out there shouldn't be that "spike" since you still have injector at higher RPM's. It should be a smoother line.

Please hook up an OBD-II scantool to the car and check your spark advance... it might be too high even for 96 octane. It's possible it's another hardware problem all together.

Finally, I just noticed your AFR is different on those three pulls... :confused

Boris,

At this point Karl is going to send me a new chip to try and solve the issue. If the problem still exists after this next chip iteration I'm taking the car into my shop to run a whole series of tests. Thanks again for the input.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
