I went to PepBoys the other day to buy some Mobil1 oil for an "in-between" oil change. The clerk pointed out that they were selling a MADD calendar for $1 that has a coupon for Mobil1. Buy 3, get 3 free.
I bought 2 calendars, used both coupons and got 12 quarts of Mobil1 5W-30 for about $30+$2 and tax.

The Pep Boys here actually closed about a year ago, so I'll have to get some this weekend when I visit my girlfriend.
I actually bought 7 quarts from Advanced Auto, and they gave me a free STP oil filter ($10 usually), so 7 quarts and filter for $35, not too bad either. Your deal is better though, time to stock up on the 0W-40 Mobil1 :D

Roy,
Opinions vary. You should check the owner's manual or call the dealer.
My 2001 530i requires full synthetic oil. Viscosity depends on weather conditions. The dealer told me Mobil1 was ok for the car. The BMW oil is supposedly Castrol full synthetic.
With cold weather approaching, I chose 5W30. I'll probably switch to a heavier oil next Spring.

Which Pep Boys, the one out by East Town Mall or is there one on Kingston?
I actually need oil...
The cashier told me I can't use the coupon til 05. I'll try a different Pep Boys.
I wish I had a pep boys in Kansas City

Aaron - I got mine at the store on Kingston Pike, but both should have the calendars.
NFS - The coupons expire 12/31/05, but don't have any start date as far as I can see.
This calendar is actually shown on their web site with a link to an ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3893&item=7117836019

went to the pep boys by my house, and no calendars to be found. not surprised though, since they're terrible at stocking things. they'll probably put out the calendars for sale in may.

December 31, 2005.
Yeah all mine have the buy one-get one stickers on the Techron and a few other things as well. It's still a solid deal IMHO.
Rob- If you want someone to pick you up half a dozen and send them out, let me know.

awesome, thanks aaron! i'll have to take you up on that offer. i'll send you a PM. btw, when did you move to knoxville?
doesn't this kinda click a "pissed off" inside everyone here for a second? if they are going to give one free per purchase then we are only paying 50% of what's original cost is and when we think about it, we've been overcharged this whole time! and to think if at 50% they are still making a profit....... wow, we are getting shafted.

I think they also count a lot on people picking up other things besides oil while they're in the store. Might grab a few filters since you're there, and who knows what else. I doubt they're making a huge profit (if any) at the 50% off Mobil1 deal. On the other hand, you're buying a calendar you might use. Not only will it remind you of Pep Boys and possibly make you return for more items, but someone else might see it, and choose Pep Boys for their purchases, too. It's all advertising in the end.
Besides, everything is marked up in the store. They're there to make a profit and run a business. Besides, if they overprice it, someone else (A&A, Advanced Auto, who knows) can just come along and price it for less and draw more customers.

oh i know they are there to make money but the profit is just insane!

We don't know if they're really still making a profit on them. They're only putting out so many calendars, and they can probably write off any losses because the calendar is for a charity. I'm not a tax pro, but things aren't always as they seem.
Rob- Moved to Knoxville in February, started working for BSH Home Appliances ( http://www.bsh-group.de/index.html ). I work at the plant that makes Thermador Professional ranges and some other high-end appliances. Pretty solid deal, and the weather is excellent compared to Ohio.

Wal-Mart sells Mobil1 for about $23 for a 5 quart container. We all know that Wal-Mart runs a pretty tight ship. So my guess is that Pep Boys doesn't make that much on the oil. I think they are actually losing money when they sell it at buy 3, get 3 free. That's why they want to limit the coupons to buy 1, get 1 free.
how many quarts does a 540i take?

Aaron,
hc1001 pointed out that where he lives, they have put stickerrs on the coupon limiting the offer to buy 1, get 1 free.
THe manual says the 540 needs almost 8 quarts of oil. The 530 and 525 need almost 7 quarts.

Whoa...my bad. I was going off a discussion I had with a fellow quite a while back, but my memory must be fading faster than I thought :)
That's a lotta damn oil!
Do your calendars not have the BOGO stickers? All mine have them-

I bought 20 calendars last week.. I would say 5 had stickers on the oil... 10 total had stickers on all of the bottom (including the oil) and the other 10 had zero stickers
I just peeled the stickers off all the oil ones.. I figured the stickers were only for the other 3 items next to it.. not the oil.. someone just didnt know what they were doing and put the stickers on all the bottom items

No, Aaron, the calendars I bought down at Cedar Bluff last week have no stickers on the oil coupon. The three coupons to the left of the oil coupon each have a BOGO sticker.
