what do you mean "next?" i thought the E39 was the only one!?

as far as sedans go, the 5 is clustered at the top with a few others like E-class, XJ, and A6. any would be noble contenders though each differ in their appeal.

i've always been a fan of the XJR and so i think of it first in terms of comparison sedans. with an all black XJ you can look mean as all hell yet still remain completely civil, modest, and understated as well. throttle...yippy!

now that i think about it some more, the acura sedans are becoming more appealing in their styling. the TSX is looking mighty fine lately.

you are right about the XJRs. I beleive the new XJ body is too big for the car's profile. the previous body profile was just sleek.

Lexus GS400/430 is nice also. Hard to beat the Lexus reliability, fit&finish and service. Whatever floats your boat among the cars already mentioned

If you're looking to step up, the obvious choices would be the M5, E55, XJR, or RS-6.

If you're looking to take it a step further, a Designo E55 or Individual M5.

Beyond that, you're pretty much looking at the various tuner treatments.

infiniti has some wild cars out now that might be worth looking into. The Q45 isn't all the expensive and it's got the sick VH motor. or go for the FX45... now that's just a car that's really fun; or the FX35 and add a blower... total bliss there.
