hi all,

I need to sell my 2004 Mini Cooper S with 900 miles on it. It has the Sport package. How much do you think I should list the car at? Thanks. The car is in perfect and NEW condition. If anyone is interested let me know. Thanks

Ed

900 miles?? Good grief, man, that's not even broken in! Why on earth... oh, never mind. That's your business, not mine.

Anyway, "new" condition or not, cars depreciate immediatly upon purchase, so the bad news is, you likely won't get every cent back out of it. The good news is that MINIs lead their category in retaining value, so you won' be as screwed as if you were trying to sell a VW or Ford.

If you want a "quick and easy" out, you can always go the CarMax route. The buy used cars from people, and if it's in the shape you say, you can at least walk away with some money for your trouble. If you're inclined to try selling it yourself, though, some more reading is in order...

A good place to check car values is www.edmunds.com. Another is the Kelley Blue Book, at www.kbb.com. If you're unfamiliar with that source, here is an excellent write-up (back on Edmunds) on just how it is used: http://www.edmunds.com/advice/specialreports/articles/49241/article.html

Last but not least, I'd recommend reading up not only on selling used cars, but also on buying them, just to get some perspectives on what an intelligent consumer (and thus, one with the money to spend) will be looking for. A pretty good place to start is the nationally syndicated Clark Howard Radio Show: http://clarkhoward.com/library/cars.html

Good luck. Pity you have/want to get rid of it so soon...

Minis don't depreciate that much, especially in areas where there is a long wait.

If you're in an area where there is a waiting list at the dealer, list it at or near what you paid. A lot of people will take the extra 900 miles for not having to wait to get the car. Good luck.

Down here in Miami they would be asking 24,000 or more for that car and would probaly get it. I just put a down payment on a mini and have to wait till the end of janurary to get it. So ask the most and get the most.

I think it's worth $5000 - and you must sell it to me :)

Why are you selling it?
