Sometimes when Im driving along, my 535 beeps 3 times from the dash, I cant even tell from where..nothing indicates why

It used to have a cell phone...could this be some remnant?

Does it beep at you, or does it just beep to itself?

Anyway, there is a little speaker under the steering wheel.

Probably beeps to itself, seeking intelligent conversation

But why the speaker?

Mine does that too, when the hour changes. There is a list of "beepables" in the manual, if it is annoying and you want to stop it. If i recall, after pressing the hr/date button on the computer interface, you should see an icon on the side that looks like this, sort of: -))) . This indicates that the chime is active. To disable it, press the unmarked button next to the display on the computer.

I don't know what the "unmarked button" is next to the display...so may I interject....push the HOUR button to display the time, then push the S/R button located on the right side of the OBC. The "o)))" icon located on the right side of the OBC display should distinguish and that will end the 3 beeps 15 seconds before the hour. (did you ever notice that it was time related?) This feature is more of a Euro thing where there is a radio news broadcast at the top of every hour...this "MEMO" warning chime alerts the driver 15 seconds before the hour to turn the radio on to hear the news report. :)

The car also beeps when the outside temperature dips below 37 degrees.

Why 37? I have no idea. Anyone else know? It would seem like 32 is a more logical temp to beep at.

Because of wind and angle of bridges and other road surfaces...black ice can form on road surfaces around 38 degrees fahrenheit. Think about it, the temperature of the ground on a shaded street will be different than one that is open and in direct sunlight...bridges freeze over before the rest of the street because of the wind that surrounds the top and bottom. The TEMP warning can be annoying at times especially if the outdoor ambient temperature is fluctuating in the upper 30s on a partly cloudy day...but the warning is there to help you remember that danger could be a big patch of black ice in your path and to drive accordingly. Keep your eyes open!

Some of the (oft forgotten) features for wintertime driving installed in the e34 (there may be more they these are the ones that come to mind):

1. Door lock heater: after doors have been locked for about 30 seconds, the lock heater on the driver's door can be activated by lifting up & holding the handle for approx 10 sec. This will heat up the lock cylinder for about 20-30 seconds. If the lock is still frozen...you can repeat this procedure 2 more times. After the 3rd try, you have to wait like 40 minutes before the lock heater can be activated again.

2. Heated sideview mirrors.
3. Heated windshield "squirters" (and headlamp washers if installed) :)
4. The AUTO IHKA system will blow air only to the defroster outlets when the outside ambient temps are low...and will only blow air through the other vents when the heater reaches around 85 degrees F. (it doesn't want to blow cold air on the passengers)
