Ok,

Had my car in at a local trusted mechanic this week, just got this car and even I noticed that when looking at the tranny fluid, it was dirty and did not smell right.
The mechanic said that he recommended having the car sent out to another shop, have the transmission flushed to get all the dirty fluid out and completely replaced.
I called a tranny shop that I know from my old service parts guy days and he did not suggest to flush but only change the filter/fluid by dropping the pan.
Now only dropping the pan replaces only around 30-40% of the fluid. Whereas the flush completely replaces. The tranny shop said that the flush is hard on the tranny and may cause more problems, whereas the mechanic said that only dropping the pan and only adding 30% new fluid is not good enough....
hhmmm, what to do???

From what I understand flushing is the way to go if you have to replace the fluid. Changing a same amount of fluid is a plan for disaster. There has been endless discussion on this subject.

I'm not sure if that only pertains to the "lifetime" fluid or all. I don't know about your year. Why would you want to add good fluid to bad fluid and leave all that bad fluid in your trans?
