I am currently not forcedly induced.

I am in the process of "developing" a supercharger kit for my 325is using a Lysholm screw compressor. My project is proceeding well, with my tuning methods (but not the actual tuning) worked out, and most of the mechanicals sorted out in mock-up form.

I have a few more mechanical details to work out, and then I will be sending designs out to get components (intake manifold, brackets, inlet/outlet housings, etc) fabricated.

I am really hoping to get the parts together and installed this summer, but this is an after hours thing for me, and I have 3 young kiddies at home.

I am a Mech E by training and work that as my day job. I unfortunately spend much more of my time in management rols at work, so this project is allowing me to continue to "sow my engineering oats" and not lose ALL my skills!!!

I have been around bf.com for a while, and even participated in the "original" forced induction board before it got canned...

I designed and built an SC for the 328, which I may or may not sell in kit form for prices far below everyone else.

Steve, so this is you! I hope the project is progressing, and if you get the manifold squared away I may have a proposition for you on the E46...

Steve,

I remember you talking about your plans for a PD blower long ago. Hope things work out, and of course, do tell us when you figure things out.

My setup is:
Dinan Supercharger @ 6psi
Dinan Exhaust and larger injectors

I have been a member of bf.c since its inception...

Moderators, feel free to use this to start a new thread if you feel it is warranted!!

I have worked out a preliminary intake manifold design, and mocked it up on the engine with parts of a stock manifold (Thanks to Jim P!!!) and some foam core. I have been modeling everything in a 3D solid modeling package as i go so that when I am done I will be able to make parts drawings, etc.

I am also very lucky in that my next door neighbor company at work is a company which develops and sells resins for StereoLithography (rapid prototyping). A friend over there is always looking for cool parts to make to test their resins. What this means to me is that I have been able to test all of my parts do far by making actual dimensionally accurate models out of plastic. Right now I have a model SC with custom designed inlet and outlet housings, with the stock throttle body attached, sitting on the spare engine in my garage.

I am working on sweet talking them into doing the manifold for me so that I can check it out!!!

Rich, I WILL make this work, unless there is some fundamental flaw which makes it not possible (which I don't believe). If you would like to talk about some type of "proposition" for E46's, shoot. I obviously need to get the E36 setup done first, so I will be very smooshy on commitments right now, but we can certainly talk!!!! I think you have my email!!

Steve,

Your project sounds like it's progressing very nicely!! Have any pics of it to share?

stimpee

Nick,

Although I do have some pics, I am not quite sure that I am ready to share them yet. I have hundreds of hours invested in this project, and the majority of it has been trying to figure out how to stuff 10 lbs of sh*t into a 5lb bag. If you are familiar with the lysholm compressors, they are HUGE. Couple that with the details of inlet/outlet, and the fact that I have insisted to myself that I come up with a solution which I can air-air intercool, you have one MAJOR problem!!!

I feel that showing the pics right now, would give someone a major headstart on what I have achieved so far. Once I get things running, or close to running, I will probably feel differently, as I will then have a significant enough headstart to feel a bit more comfortable.

Also, I really don't want to make any promises at this point until I get something working and get some real data.

I am sure you are aware of the fact that there are individuals on the 'net that have been burned by "oversharing" too early on in their product development, right?

All in due time gentlemen, all in due time!!!

:)

I'm new to the board and you can click on my site to see my mods. Hot day dyno #'s 236rwhp, 205rwtq on street gas and on a cooler day with a half tank of 101 octane 255rwhp, 219rwtq.

Mods on the way: thinking about the water/alcohol injection setup but I'm afraid to up the boost due to the fact that I have a Powerdyne blower...

'95 M3, stock Dinan Powerdyne kit + Dinan tb + Dinan exhaust. I'm ashamed to own something with so much Dinan crap on it. Oh well, at least I just replaced the 'Dinan' clutch with an OEM E34 M5. - Beau

Steve,

Are you going to have a Laminova sitting between the blower and manifold? - Beau

stimpee
04-12-2002, 09:42 PM
Nope, I am planning on an air-air FMIC. I want to end up with a system that will handle road-course running in high temps without heat soak. Dunno if I will be able to achieve it or not, but I don't even think it is possible with air-liquid intercooling unless you are carrying around a bathtub full of water...
