Just about any auto tranny from an E28 or E23 should do it - I believe they are ZF4h22's or something like that.

If he needs a tranny - why doesn't he just do a 5 speed swap. - it'a little more involved - but everyone knows the 5 speeds last longer W/ regular maintenance.

Besides - it's a bimmer. it needs a 5 speed.

If he gest a used auto tranny - make sure it's froma reputable source and do everything servicable to it before install (front and rear main seals; selector shaft seal; etc) I shouldn't even have to mention fresh fluid.

If he's willing to have one shipped -

Tell him to try vines automotive - it's down here in AL and they are my main parts guys.

205-426-2697 (BMWS)

they do new/used/remanned stuff.

When I had to put a tranny in my old 633 - got it from them and it ran like a top.

HTH-

BTW, I meant to tell you earlier, it seems that these transmissions like to take a dump around 120k...

Yup - that be the general consensus.. I know of a few folks that have gotten over 200K on them W/ very regular maintenance - but those are the exceptions - not the rules.

Funkmasta? You got one of them auto tranny's lyin around?

I dont... I sold my last one to a BMW shop ;) someone had broken the transmission in their 735i loaner car. Damn I gave them a good deal on it too :(
