ok..with all this supercharger talk i think i'm going to succumb and get a supercharger for my m-coupe...however...if i'm going down...i'm bringing other people down with me

i think i can organize a group buy on supercharger kits for 99-00 M-coupe/M-roadster...most likely on a dinan kit...so right now i'm gauging preliminary interest so i can go to my guy and see what kind of deal i can work for us....

so anyone who's seriously interested in getting one...email me...

please be serious about this...i want to go to my guy with people who are really interested...i might be able to extend this to e36 M3's as well...

right now i have 2 m-coupes ready to buy and 1 e36 m3 owner ready...

...while i'm working out this supercharger thing...

in the meantime i'm going to get a compression test and cylinder leakdown test done on my engine just to make sure everything is 100%...

...then dyno my car to establish baseline numbers....

if I had an M coupe....

maybe we could get ESS to do a group discount, they offere units for pretty much every car...

no dinan or RMS for my car.

Maybe hit the 3 series' sections (all of them, M3, 3 series, E36, E46, etc) cuz a lot of those guys are considering s/c's as well...

I'm thinking about getting an mcoupe an sc'ing it. If you can get a gp on Dinan, I would almost be a shoe in, but will Dinan go for this??

i think you might get a much bigger group if you do include us M3 owners

i passed on the ess gp but if someone does organize a dinan one with a substantial discount i would be game for sure.

i was on the fence with the ess one but if i can get it done locally without the hassle of international shipping and customer service, i could get off the fence .:D

ok..i'm going to have to work out the details and see what's possible....my original intention was to see if i could get something together with M-roadster and M coupe owners since it would be a multiple buy-in on a single kit. The e36 m3, although using the same 3.2L 240hp engine, has a slightly different kit in terms of the mounting brackets, etc (or so i am led to believe). But it might be entirely possible to work a double buy-in on both kits...mcoupe/roadster and e36 m3.

i'm going to see what i can find out about working this out and then post in this and other forums to see how much interest there is...

This needs to be posted in the "Group Purchase & Vendor Special" forum, not in the car forums.

I'm moving it...

RUKMAN, how were you planning to go about this? I've been in touch with a dinan installer and he sounded skeptical at first, but his ears perked up when i said it could be 10 to 20 people?

Were you thinking of going through dinan directly or through an authorized installer of your choice?

Dinan is a very hard company to work with for discounts on their products. Their dealership agreement is very strick and they have no problem pulling dealerships for whatever reason.

They have specifically setup a network that doesn't allow price wars and discounts like you see on the net.

I tried to setup the same thing and spent many hours on the phone with local reps around the country trying to setup something. My thoughts are until there is more competition in the SC market Dinan will not cut anyone a deal. :(

Another point is that you will get more people in the GB if you include the E46 people.

If you guys can hold off for 2-3 weeks I will be posting the results of the March/April group buy that I ran for ESS. ESS has been kind of slow in getting the systems out but that is because the Vortech Blowers have been on back order.

A couple of systems shipped today and we expect the other 10 or so to ship Monday.

We will do a full report on installation, power gains, etc. Before the middle of May.

Hope that helps.

the dinan group buy idea is dead....as others can atest to, dinan is very difficult to deal with and the local distributor even more so...

however...with the positive experiences people have been having lately with RMS and my ability to get a better deal on a rms kit will probably have me going that route....

interest in a RMS Kit?
at what price point?...

JLee

sorry, no way on a RMS SC....i know there's some positive feedback, but the ones that aren't so positive are too severe to ignore.

RMS has a 15% off... as i remember... and if you can get 5 ppl ... itz 20% off~

im lil shaky on RMS... otherwise... i would of done it for sure!

I just purchased an ESS kit for a 1997 E36 M3 and am satisfied with it. I've been reviewing the installation instructions and may attempt the install myself since I can't find anyone here to do it.
The website I posted earlier was for the ESS kit and I thought your previous post was for that.

any luck with your dinan guy?

PDX///M

Hey guys,

I think that most of you may already know this but Dinan is very, I mean VERY, picky about who sells their products. They have a very good dealer network and there are strict guidelines as to what you can and cannot do as a dealer.

The bottom line is that they will not give discounts and if the buyer is not in your region you have to refer them to a dealer in their area.

This is their way of keeping the prices where they are at and you dont have dealers undercutting each other. The model works for Dinan but doesn't give us, the consumer, any options.

So.... If you want Dinan. You have to cough up the dough.

As for RMS.... Do your homework and talk to people. Nuf said there.

ESS is still new and so far the product looks good. However they were really REALLY slow. To their defense there were some problems with Vortech being out of stock on some of the blowers but still... they were slow.

In the next month you will see a new website detailing the install of the ESS kit. I have dyno'd my car before and will dyno after the blower.

If you want more details on ESS ill be happy to answer questions.

PDX///M, please post results as soon as you get it installed. How do you get your computer upgraded with the ESS??

PDX///M

I unpacked the kit today and will be starting install this weekend.

I have a 95 so i dont have to send my ecu in. But for obdii cars you pull your ECU and Fed Ex it to them. They program the Ecu and send it back. It takes about 2 days to send, 1-2 days for programming, and 2 days return.

They have been good about turn around time for programming.

How about talking about dollars! Everyone is interested when it's free... but what are we really talking about in terms of real $$$?

PDX///M
08-14-2002, 06:56 PM
Real $$$... well that depends.

Normally you are looking at 5%-8% for a group buy. So on a 5k purchase that is $250-$400 in real $$$.

Ill see what I can do but I cant guarantee anything.
