Not for a bmw, but a question on when I can put my snow tires on for my 240. The all-season POS tires on there now are absolutly horrible, they cant hold air to a point, so they are unsafe and handle like crap.

So I have a set of arctic alpine tires, waiting to go on. Question is, if I put those on now, will it wear down the tires too much, since it isnt snowing yet? I dont drive much now, since I am at school... Only time I do serious driving is when I go home(~250 round trip), once every 2-3 weeks, and occasional trips around columbus.

Thanks

from what i have read, it is not so much the driving on dry pavement that causes damage to the softer snow tires, but the heat, i.e. driving them in the warm weather. I'd wait on the snow tires and just stick with what you got, esp. if you aren't driving much to begin with.

When the weather hits 40 degrees for several days solid, then it's time to change them out. That's the rule I follow.

When the weather is 40 degrees or more for an entire week, then I change back.

It's worked for me so far.
