I have a 1994 325i and upgraded my old headunit to a 1999 M3's headunit. I have the old Alpine 6-disc changer and it won't work with my new headunit. I was looking through a BMW accessories catalogue and I found that the newer changer had I-Bus, something my old one doesn't have.
Could it be that I need to also upgrade my cd changer?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Sorry, but you're gonna have to update your CD changer as well. The biggest pain, however, is to actually run an I-Bus wire from the head unit to the trunk. You don't have that in your car presently.
My solution to my 99 head unit (C43) in my 95 M3 was to get the BMW/Nakamichi glove box changer. I still had to add an I-Bus wire, but it was only a short distance to the glovebox. BTW, It takes a fair amount of cutting in order for the changer to fit in the glovebox. Not the easiest project.
Email me if you have any more questions. Good luck!
