Thanks - Yep - looks like Euros are easier to come by. Anyone know of any S54's?
This would be for a racecar build up, so it doesn't need the EWS, KEY or ECU.
Thanks!

I have a Euro 3.2 that should be here the end of next week. It has 70k miles on it and includes everything needed to make it run. If you are going to not need the EWS stuff you will have to run aftermarket engine management as it won't work with the stock ECU without the EWS.
Also included (if you want it) is the matching 6 speeed tranny.
PM me for more info.

The euro motors are not called the S52. The euro 3.2 is designated the S50B32. For a low mileage S50B32 with complete wiring harness and ECU, it can range from 8500-11000. I currently have a S50B32 in my race car which will be for sale shortly. It will come complete with wiring harness and Group N motorsport ECU. The Group N ECU eliminates the EWS and has a more aggressive programming. My motor came directly from PTG as a "crate" motor and has around 5-7k on it. When I post it up for sale, I'll probably be looking to get 10k+ for it.
As for the S54, i've seen some going for 4500-5500 which isnt too bad. The S54 is a better option in an E36 chassis for racing because power is easier to obtain in the S54. With some cams and stand alone such as Motec, you'll see around 380-385 at the crank. You'd have to spend 12k+ on the euro 3.2 to get 380 and then it would be a grenade motor.

Um... not to digress, or disagree...
Good luck getting motec, dyno time and the valve job you need added onto a S54 to make 380 hp for small dough. Spend the same on an S50B32, and you'll be within a hair of the same HP.... there is only 45 cc and .3 of compression difference, and some minor changes in the weight of the valve train. Less aggravation with e-gas as well.
I assume you're talking about a low buck version of the motec that doesn't lock the cams......
Ooooh, and I love the bearings on these S54's.....works of art. Just how many recalls have they had on them?
(Yeah, I'm biased because I bringing in a bunch of euro stuff, but for ease of installation for the average E36 guy, I don't think the the S54 is easier or cheaper.....)
For a racer, yeah, if you can afford motec, then go for it.
Jon, nice body kit....you got some press in Perfomance BMW, you saw that I assume.

Hey Alex, Im just saying from what I've heard and seen from Stickley. He is currently building 8 or so S54s for Grand Am. The motors must run stock pistons and rods. Cams are free and I think some headwork. With Motec, he is making 380-385hp at PTGs engine dyno. He's even told us straight up the euro 3.2 is very expensive to work on especially with the parts becoming more rare and the price of the euro overseas. If you find a used S54 for sale for around 5-6k, a used stand alone (Motec, EFI etc.) and some trick cams, you can have a beast of a motor thats dead reliable. Im not looking for peak hp and a one season motor. I'd rather have a mildly tuned S54 which will last one season after the other, yet still be competitive in CM.

Its an option, but not a smart one to replace a euro 3.2.

I am rebuilding my US 3.2l just to have something to race now.
Evosport is developing with AEM some stuff for the S54. When that is developed, I will put an S54 in with new bearings, lightweight rods, pistons, some cams, etc. But until then, the lowly US3.2 will have to suffice.

Sounds good. Do they have a time frame or projected price on the AEM unit as Im looking to go the S54 route as well. Thanks

They have the parts in house. The motor is in a car, now all they need is time. Should be end of first quarter. If I was paying for it, it might be sooner, but this is in-house research. . .

Thanks for the update Jon. Have you found a good source for S54s w/ wiring harnesses? Thanks
