I guess he has 2-3 piece rims and wants a wider "cylinder" to run more rubber.

Well you can widen 1 piece wheels. It was in one of my Porsche mags with this guy named CHen and his Porsche 944 with a custom turboed 3.0L 16v 968 engine. He took 2 wheels, cut it in half, cut out the amount he wanted out of the secondary wheel and welded it back together. Makes sense? If not, I'll look for the aritcla and do a direct quote.

I would call up some speed shops in your area and ask. Hot Rod type shops might be your best bet. If you don't get any leads, then start contacting machine shops.

I've seen some Supra guys do this as well to keep the stock wheel look but being able to squeeze some huge rubber on them.

I would guess $100-150/wheel.

The welding sounds a little risky to me and you're not going to get a lower offset with that method (which you probably need).

Use spacers if you need a lower offset.

I dont see how welds are risky, as long as they are done correctly. There are plenty of 2pc wheels out there that are welded instead of bolted together.

I have a couple friends that have went this route. By the time they were done, they spend about $300 a wheel. But, they got to keep the stock wheel look and run 315's out back (Impala and Lightning)

Ahhh...he's got steel wheels. My brother did this long time ago when he needed cheap wheels for autocross. I would probably check the local speed shops in your area; shipping steel wheels across the country would probably be very high. Might also check with the local BMWCCA for leads.

I've seen some widened BBS RKs on T.C. Kline's old Z3. I believe dazz (www.dazzmotorsports.com) did the work. They looked great.
