Hey all!
My friend recently purchased a very nice 1995 M3/2 Alpine white. It has the OEM spoiler (I know because mine's not OEM :( ) and he absolutely hates it. He would like to trade for a clean (no scratches or dents) trunk with cash.
If anybody is interested, please let me know. Local buyers/traders definitely preferred.
Since this is OEM and already painted, I'm looking to get, hopefully, $250-300 for this. If this is unreasonable, please let me know.
Any questions, email: clumpymold@sbcglobal.net or post here.
Here are some pictures (sorry for the crappy pictures):

Generally it is somewhere around straight trade +$100... ymmv
Really? That seems WAY too low. Especially seeing that most people sell their OEM spoilers for $200-300. :dunno
I would think this would go for even more since it's already installed. :dunno
Anyway, bump. :D Make me an offer.

But on the contrary, if he were to have to take it off, he would have to fill/sand/paint, so it is saving him $ too.
If your buddy needs a third brake light, let me know. :)

True. But you're saying if he sold the entire unit for $100 or opted to remove it and sell it for $250, he can buy a new trunk as well for $150 (from a junkyard) and still have his original trunk. I don't see why he'd choose to trade it for $100 cash. That's way too little IMO.
Oh, and yeah, he may need a third brake light. How much, shipped to 91754?

Well, to each their own ;) To me that spoiler is worth every penny, but thats just me.
$20 shipped for the third, let me know.
thanks!

You have to understand that the only way your friend can get a trunk lid without a wing and origonal paint is to get one off a car that was never equipped with a wing. so that makes him in need of something. now someone who wants the wing could always buy a wing and have it installed and painted but if someone would trade it would satisfy both parties. if it were me i wouldnt see a reason to help someone get what they want on top of paying them. maybe a tiny bit but really its a matter of personal preference. now if your friend had bought the wing and put it on and realized he didnt like it then that would be a different story. but he got the car with the wing. i dont see how in helping him he should recieve a cash proffit on top of that.

Cash profit? I hardly think it's a profit. If anything, a loss. How much did that wing cost from the dealership?
Besides, he doesn't care so much about the holes. He was just going to putty them up and have his friend who owns a shop paint it. But I figured why not trade with someone who's always wanted a wing. In fact, I would have traded him when I was looking for a wing. I paid $250 for my non-OEM wing (yes, I got ripped off) which I thought was OEM. I would have definitely traded my trunklid for one with an OEM spoiler for $250.
I don't think that's a lot to ask for him. Even $200 is still a good deal IMO. I had no spoiler and I see more non spoiler M3s than spoiler ones. :dunno

Its all about finding the right person at the right time.
If he is in a hurry to get it off, then he will have to take a loss on it and get rid of it to someone that will take it. If he can wait until someone really wants a white Spoiler, then I bet he will seal the deal between 200 and 250. Did you post in the regional forum? additionally, i dont want you to feel as if my post is hurting his sale, so I will edit it now.

it would only be a loss if he actualy paid for the spoiler and then changed his mind. the fact that he didnt purchase the spoiler and it did come on the car when he bought it makes it really no loss at all. just like wheels. if his car came with ltw's and he wanted contours he wouldnt loose anything by trading streight up.

That's sorta true. Some people charge a tad more for cars with "extra" mods. He paid a bit more than he should have BECAUSE it had certain mods, the spoiler being one of them. Selling this spoiler for WAY less than the original cost is just his way of recouping what little extra he spent on the car.

Is it a curved spoiler? A direct rear shot would tell us. And just to clarify, would he consider selling the spoiler alone? Which AW is it, I, II or III? I'd consider just the spoiler, b/c I don't want a trunk lid w/mismatching Vin# on my car...

You know what, I don't think it's the curved spoiler but I can ask. I don't think he'd sell it alone (otherwise, I'd just buy it from him).
Not sure which AW it is. His car is a 4/94 build, I believe and it has NO third brake light in the rear window. I heard that implies that the spoiler was from the factory. :dunno

Dude, you're asking way too much for a trade - $100 or maybe $150 for a swap. You can get a good quality after market spoiler that's colormatched for a bit more than $200.

Of course you can. I'm selling my OEM-style, color-matched, for $150, shipped. Name brand spoilers sell from $250-300, upwards of $1000, depending on material.
OEM is a different story. You can't compare aftermarket stuff to OEM. That's like comparing prices on OEM vs. aftermarket wheels. 15" BMW wheels sell for more than some 19" aftermarket ones. These sell for $250-300 (used) from what I've seen on this board. Besides, I'm not asking THAT much and the price is negotiable. I'd LIKE $200 for this but if I can get $100-150, that's fine too. :dunno

As you are coming to find out, its hard to trade for what your friend thinks will be an upgrade and make money on top of it. And I highly doubt that the seller of your friends car said ok the car is say $15000 but since it has a wing im gonna charge $15500. Just my 2cents. good luck with the trade/sale though.

Well, I wouldn't think it's hard. It's just hard to get a lot of money on top of it. I'm sure someone would be willing to trade if I lowered the price to something like $50-100.
And yes, it IS a premium. It's not so clear cut in that he'll just add an additional $500 on top of the price stock. Even if you go to Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com), you'll have an option to add a spoiler. The spoiler changes the price a tad.

Oops, sorry. Didn't realize this was my thread. And didn't get the email notification. :(
Actually, my friend may still be interested. But an offer would help. :stickoutt
Oh, good point. Yeah, lock cylinders would also have to be traded. Let me know if you're still interested and I'll ask my friend. :D
