I keep the Pathfinder just for winter driving...

Seeing that all Bimmers are rwd, it's not a great idea to take a chance on drifting into a concrete barrier (or getting stuck in a snowbank).

i just get freaked out by all the deer that are around us here in PA, but you guys have moose which are much worse to hit in a car. I remember the tour guides saying that when we were on the eastern coastline of Canada.

a friend of mine got into a bad accident and totalled his car on campus. He slipped on a 3" thick coating of wet leaves and hit his car into the curb. They are really bad, and a lot of people underestimate that they can be just as slippery as ice.

Wouldn't it suck to have to tell your insurance company that you totalled your car by hitting a pile of leaves? :confused

If you see leaves and you don't slow down you deserve teh totalage.

the curve that he slipped on was an S-curve, going downhill. He was only going 5mph around the curve, the entire road surface had a 3" coating of wet leaves on it. The roads around here are never street-swept, so they are always slippery to begin with.

Another accident that happened when I was in high school also involved wet leaves, and one of my classmates died (he was in the passenger seat). :(

Wet leaves =:nono

And to answer the question, yes, i do drive my car during the winter, although i wish i didnt have to. My exhaust pipes from the cat to the muffler are starting to rust like crazy!

my car only sees the road if it's sunny or dry. in cases of emergencies i'll drive the car but never in snow. so basically here in the west coast it pretty much gets garaged through winter.

It aint bad in the snow just takes some getting used to
and as long as you drive responsibly

Yeah, the whole fwd is better then rwd in winter is really rediculous. This usually also comes from people that have never driven a RWD in the winter. FWD just gives you a false sense of security because of all that weight over the driving wheels. But, if you lose traction and start to understeer in the winter, that will suck.

Just throw something in your trunk to put some extra weight over your rear tires and get a good set of snow tires. As long as you don't drive like an idiot, you'll be fine.

I really dislike when people just stick with their all-seasons for winter. There is such a huge difference between all-season tires and winter tires for the winter.

I've got a good set of Michelin All-Seasons that I use for winter driving and I'm fine. I am going to get snow tires next year, if I remain in a cold climate.

I swap out the all seasons for winter tires on the BMW's and keep going year round. I've found that my e30 gets better traction than some SUV's in the snow. I take her up to the mountains to ski, and it's never given me any problems. It'll be interesting to see how the E39 performs this year, but I've got some Michelin Alpines. Plus, this is Calgary... wait a day or two and the chinook will melt all the snow.

I drive my car all year too. Just throw on the alpins as well an it's good to go.

Get winter tires. They are a total difference.

I drove the Z the 1st winter, it did fine but I don't want to put her through that again, so I got a Honda. Best made cars EVAR!
