Im think im gonna get a set of Moven M4's 18x8.5, Im pretty sure the et is 35(correct me if im wrong). What size tires do i need to get because im like absolutely clueless about all these tire measurements (its my first car :rolleyes ) but i was guessing 225/40/18 all around? Is that right tell me what i need instead if its not
Thanks

That would work. Or, if you wanted to step up the size you could go 245/35-18. Definitely no narrower than 225 on a 8.5" rim. 235 would work also, just not sure if it'd be a 35 or 40 series tire. 35 is a little short and 40 is a little tall. If going with a 235 I'd probably go 35 series. I only found 2 in that size at tirerack.com, 4 for the 245/35-18, and 50 in 225/40-18 (looking only at max and ultra-high performance spec tires). Obviously 225 gives you the most options and is least likely to rub. Hope that helps.

with that offset, you will rub with anything more than 225s if your car is lowered.

I'd put 245/35 on 18x8.5" rims.
If they rub on the front, just get some spacers.

why would he rub? wouldn't a 35 offset put the wheel farther out in the wheel well, meaning that there's more room for rubber w/in the well?
obviously if he gets a taller tire than the stock size that would effect it, but if the size is about the same as overall oem, why would it rub?

Sure, but most fitment problems (in the rear, at least) are on the outboard (ie fender) side. Having an et lower than stock will just exacerbate the problem. I dunno, et35 is pretty marginal in back.

I just installed 225/40/18s that I purchased from tirerack.com and had them mounted to 18X8.5 BBS RCs. BIG MISTAKE. I don't care what tirerack claims, a 225/40/18 is too narrow for an 18X8.5 wheel. Tirerack will sell on that size so you don't have any issues with rubbing. But consider this; my 98 M3 came stock with a staggered setup: 17X8.5 front / 17X7.5 rear. BMW equipped the car with 245/40/17s at the rear. I should have realized that fact when placing my order. The rep at tirerack said there would be no issues with fitment. The tire fits on the wheel and that's about it. The car is borderline dangerous with the new tires. Under cornering, the tires overwork the sidewalls which are basically stretched due the the rim width. JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT...............IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE TO GO WITH THAT SIZE OF TIRE.
If you are still willing to risk your car and your health, I can cut you a great deal on lightly used 225/40/18s. Just send me a private message. In the meantime, I have ordered 245/35/18s for my car. :nono

Sorry to hear that, Mtgman. I've already said like 100 times already that 225 tires are too narrow for 8.5" wheels. IMO, 225mm=7.5", 235mm=8" and 245mm=8.5". That's it.

Don't forget tire brand plays alot into it. A 225/40/18 so3 fits a 8.5" rim fine. I Have to run a narrow tire up front due to my coilovers but that will all change soon. Anyway
I replaced my so3s with the toyo t1s and they are narrower then the so3, and seem to be a little streached over the rim but the aren't rolling onto the sidewalls under cornering so far that i can tell. With my wheels and suspension setup i think i could run a 255/35/18 toyo t1s in the rear no problem. I seem to have plenty of room for the 245/35/18 on it now.

Next time I will do more research on this forum before I order tires.
"Daved" I glad to hear I not the only one who shares this view.

I'm running 18 by 8.5 moven m4s with 225/40/18 all around. When I first got the tires, the front would rub a lil bit when I cranked the wheel all the way. I have stock suspension and a 35mm offset. It's time for me to get new tire, and I'm wondering if 235mm tire will work without severe rubbing??? :confused :help :confused

I have 235/40/ZR18's up front and 245/40/ZR18's in the rear. My M5 wheels are either 18x8.5 or 18x9
