Heres the problem. I just bought 19 x 8 rims with a 40 offset. They have 235/35 19 tires. The rims themselves (also tires) stick out 1" past the wheel wells. This is on a 1996 382i sport.
I previously had a 1994 318is lowered 2" with 19 x 8.5 rims 35 offset with the same tires and they were tucked right to the edge of the wheel wells.
Please help, what could be the problem, maybe the offset is not really 40. Thanks in advance. :help

I'm guessing the offset is not really 40, particularly if you had 235s on there before. Did you buy the wheels new and verify the offset when you bought them?

Yes, i purchased the wheels brand new. They are still at the shop ( I told them I am not paying for them if it looks like a 4x4), I am going there right now to check the offset. I did some research last night and they make these wheels in the 5 x 120 pattern with a 15 offset and a 38 offset. I am guessing they shipped the 15 offset which from what I have read on this forum would make the wheel stick out an inch. Any opinions.
thanks,

I'm thinking you're right. They probably sent you the 15 offset wheels by accident. That wouldn't make sense otherwise.
