View Full Version : What did I do to these Pilot Sport Cups?

I was at Grattan this past weekend with the Windy City BMWCCA chapter, and it was great. My Pilot Sport Cups felt good, but at the end of the last session on Sunday both left side tires were cording some at the outside shoulder and both right side tires were fine (see pics). Hot pressures were good on the first day (35 lbs which I then bumped by another pound of cold pressure), which was the warmer of the two days, but I did not check them again - clearly something I won't do again. These tires have about 4 track days on them, and I'm disappointed with the uneven wear on the outside edge of left side tires. So my question is, what caused this? Why is so much tread remaining on the inside edge of the left side tires when there's nothing left on the outside? Camber is within factory spec with the exception of the left front which has more negative. This is less than recommended for the PSCs, but the right side was OK... Do I need more camber? Were my pressures horrible off? Was I just not vigilant enough and should have swapped sides? Finally, should I buy to more PSCs or replace the whole set? Thanks for your thoughts, comments. If it matters car is a 2000 328i with Eibach Pro-kit springs and Bilsteins. Tires are size 225/45/17.

Normally caused by not enough negative camber on the track. You just end up beating up the outside shoulder in the corners. You can rotate these tires side to side to increase the tread life. They also do not like higher temps. They run the best at 25-28 psi cold for the track going up to 32-36 hot.
