can I mount a 245/40/17 tire on my stock M Contour FRONT rim---17X7.5????
I run 17X8.5all around for the track, but I don't want to pop for new whels for the street if I can avoid it-but I would like wider rubber up front for the street--I have heard some guys wrestle widerrubber on the smaller rim-

Yes, however you may encounter some strut/tire rubbing depending your suspension and tire choice.

have H&R coil overs=about 1 1/4 inches lower than stock-factory camber-need a 5mm spacer up front for the 8.5" track wheels-really don't want ot roll fenders

You shouldn't ever have to roll fenders up front. You may need to go with a wider spacer 10mm or 12mm. It'll depend on what brand tire you run - yes, the same 245/40/17 tire will be different widths from different manufacturers.

Why would you want to mount a 245mm tire on a 7.5" wide rim? The tire would stick out far from the rim.

I would like a neutral set up for the street without having to buy 8.5"wheels for the front-now that I am used to neutral handling at the track, and since the track tires look good up front I wanted the same look for the street, that's all--will probably go with 235/40 17's on stock front wheels
