E36/7 Z3 Roadster 3.0i, 5 Spd. Manual transmission, M Sport Seats (black leather), 2pc Staggered 17" Alloy wheels (style 42), Black Sapphire Metallic color (only avail on '01-'02), black leather interior, 142k miles ZERO rust
Located in Dublin, CA
First owner had this car for 20 years, I’m the third owner. Clean CA title, known history, mostly highway driven, non-smoker, no accidents, zero rust, never registered outside of San Fransisco Bay Area.
225HP 3.0L I-6 engine (M54B30), 5-Speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential.
M Sport Seats (same design as M Roadster seats, different leather), M steering wheel and M shifter, performance final drive ratio (3.46:1) with Torsen limited slip, staggered 2 piece 17” alloy wheels. This was the unofficial Sport package for the non-M Z3, somewhat similar to ZHP for the E46.
0-60 in 5.5 sec, EPA 21 MPG City, 29 MPG Highway. Fun to drive in a way you just can’t get anymore without paying Porsche or Honda S2000 money. Power to weight ratio equal within 1% to ’98-’00 (S52) M roadster.
Up to date on all maintenance. I have all service records from myself and previous owner, plus BMW’s service system records from 1st owner.
Mechanical condition:
Excellent! Engine starts instantly, idles and runs silky smooth, no CEL lights or trouble codes. Transmission shifts smoothly in every gear. Strong clutch with no slipping. New tires (Michelin Pilot Sport) 01/2024, new front brakes (Brembo pads/rotors) 07/2024.
All features and controls work properly. A/C blows cold.
Cosmetic condition:
ZERO rust, always CA car. No signs of any accident damage anywhere. Original Black Sapphire Metallic paint (only available on ’01 and ’02). VIN number decals on all panels.
Very good, interior and soft-top near excellent. Rear window (plastic) replaced by previous owner.
I’ve owned this car since October 2022. Adult owned and 90% highway driven. Always garaged at night. Soft top covered when parked outside. I always take very good care of my cars. I’m an engineer and I have worked at a major automotive manufacturer.
Wish I could keep it. The 3.0i Z3 Roadster is on Hagerty’s list of future collectibles. Eligible for Historical Vehicle registration/plate in Dec 2025.
With a few supporting mods, this Z3 will also make a good track car with performance comparable to an E36 M3.
Factory Options:
S204 Performance final drive ratio (3.46:1)
S209 Differential lock 25%, limited-slip
S263 2-Piece 17” Alloy wheels with staggered tires
S710 M Sports steering wheel
S481 M Sports seat
S494 Seat heating driver/passenger
S530 Air conditioning
S540 Cruise control
Upgrades:
Brembo drilled rotors and brake pads (front) 07/2024
German Auto Solutions DISA kit and Coolant Cap
ZHP shift knob
Recent Service:
08/2022 Water pump, valve cover gasket
11/2022 Coils (OEM Bremi) and Spark plugs (NGK)
06/2023 Upper/lower intake hoses replaced, cleaned MAF
07/2023 DISA valve rebuilt (German Auto Solutions), new coolant and oil caps, brass coolant bleeder
09/2023 Transmission (Red Line MTL) and Differential (Amsoil Severe Gear) fluids, pre-cat O2 sensors.
01/2024 New tires F/R Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4 225/45 Fr, 255/40 Rr
07/2024 Front brakes, Brembo pads & new rotors (cross-drilled)
09/2024 Seat adjustment isolator pads replaced (seat rocking fix)
01/2025 New battery
Known issues:
Transmission shift linkage is a bit stiff shifting into Reverse or 5th only when cold, goes away after warmup.
This is a known issue and ZF has a kit to address it, but it makes no sense to do it until clutch replacement time.
NOTE: Shifting is smooth even when trans is cold, NO syncho wear can be felt.
Strip on dash just under windshield is cracked.
Some bolster wear on drivers seat, but no tears. Floor mats are worn.
