Hi, what software or device will work with my 1997 328i e36? I am getting mixed answers and I am trying to scan ABS ASC light issues and rough idle. Rough idle may be vac leak and I am searching, and I have also had surging idle when stopped. I know these are probably unrelated but I figured I could start with the correct diagnostic tool and go from there.

Thanks in advance.

Just get the minimum cost code reader that'll do ABS/ASC. There's a bunch but the Autel AL619 or AL629 should do it. Otherwise, try an Autozone or one of the other part places that do free code reading. They should have something that will read the ABS codes. A search for ' BMW abs asc code readers ' on Amazon or google will give you a bunch of options. Pick one in your price range. There's really no upper limit for this stuff, depends on what you want to do.

Just tried to update my AL619 and found it's no longer supported with updates. Replaced by the AL629 or ML629 that have a bit more capability.

Thanks for the reply, I would like to know if there is anyone that has used a scanner or software to successfully connect and read and reset abs asc codes on a 1997 e36 and if so what was the scanner or software used?

“Should work” just costs me more time and $$ and I have purchased scanners they will work to bled abs but won’t read codes or reset.
