On my e34 M5, I have an issue where the car starts fine, key works, and column locks when you remove the key. The issue I am having, is lets say the car is started and running, and I turn the engine off, putting the key in in any position but still inserted in ignition. If I want to then restart the car, I can't, the key won't turn enough to start it its like the column lock is partially engaged. I have to physically remove the key, you hear the column locks, then I have to re-insert the key, then everything is fine, until I turn it off again. It's not a big deal as I can easily work around it, but I would like to fix it in case its a problem that is waiting to get worse, I'm just not sure what areas it would be in, the key mechanism itself, or the actual steering lock mechanism, which looks to be hard to find and pricey. Before I take the wheel off and start digging into it, has anyone seen this before and have a recommendation? I've seen some posts where the ignition lock is stuck, the wheel can't be removed and the car is basically dead at that point until you drill it out and replace things.
