When it got really cold here a couple weeks ago, I made the crucial mistake of trying to open my 1991 535i door, and I think I wasn't gentle enough and broke whatever mechanism connects the door handle to the latch. Now I can't close or open the driver side door.
What other cars in a similar generation had the same door latch linkage? I'm looking around at my local junkyards and Facebook market post parts cars to see if I can find the part. Better yet, if someone can direct me to a website that would sell it, that would be even better.

The whole door handle setup changed sometime in late 1991, so it just depends on which style you have. If you have metal door handles then that means you have the earlier setup, which ran in E34's from 1989-1991, and in E32's for the entire production run.
You can go on realoem.com, plug in your VIN, find the door handle mechanism diagram, and then see if the parts interchange with anything else.

after you found the correct p/n with your VIN on realoem, copy the p/n + then use one of the shops here from the forum sponsor list, used + new parts https://www.bimmerforums.com/vendors-2/
