View Full Version : E38: Both PASoft and INPA are detecting every module (including EGS) but not the DME

Hello all,

I've recently started going through the beloved journey of using software to diagnose my 1996 E38 750iL but have ran into a problem. I've gotten both PASoft 1.4 and INPA to work correctly with my car and can read/detect pretty much everything but the DME.

I've read multiple forum posts across the web of people having a similar issue - usually fixed by jumping pins 7 and 8 together via solder. I'm not sure if that means pins in the OBD connectors of the BMWScanner 1.4 and the K+DCAN cables I have. the However, one thing these posts always mention is that neither the DME nor the EGS are detected. That's not the case for me, I can detect the EGS perfectly fine with both PASoft and INPA. I can't detect the DMEs though.

At first, I assumed this might be a problem with the generic round 20 pin to 16 pin OBD adapter I got off of Amazon. However, it seems to work fine with my Foxwell NT510 (which detects the DMEs just fine). I've included a pic of PASoft connected to my car and you can see the EGS is detected but not the DME.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Certain early 750iL had DMEs that were ADS only (L-line) and not K-line

Oh, that is good to know. I did a quick Google search with the information you provided and it looks correct. Crazy that I've not heard of this - I guess it must be a V12 car problem (lovely)! So it appears I need to get a ADS compatible cable, yes? If you could point me in the right direction, that would be amazing.

To double check the integrity of my cables and software, I'm going to meet up with a buddy of mine in the next few days and scan his vehicles. He has a 1998 323is and a 2000 540i. I was wondering if everything would work correctly with his car - I believe it will, meaning the issue does indeed lie with my 750iL, and now thanks to the info you provided, needing to interface somehow with ADS. Thanks.

Did some more research. Looks like the "Tiny ADS" cable is the go-to solution and should work. However, the seller of the Tiny ADS insists you need a real serial port on your computer, and a serial to USB adapter won't work. So I might out of luck unless I can find a solution.

ICOM will work with everything including modern windows, and it just needs an Ethernet port.
