Just replaced the rear main and I put shaft seal on my zf, transmission shifted fine before hand and reverse worked perfectly, put it all together and it keeps popping out of reverse, I get about one foot backwards and it pops, I have a turner dssr, and a garagistic short shifter, both were on the car before and they worked perfectly, I made sure nothing is in the way or preventing the shifter from fully engaging. I did try first gear and it did not pop out.
super lost right now and any help would be appreciated.

I may be telling you something you already know, but if the problem distinctly appeared after the work, there's a 99% chance that you did something to cause it. It's been years since I rebuilt my shifter, and I'm no pundit, so I can only suggest that something is keeping the shifter from fully engaging Reverse. Have you tried firmly holding it in Reverse with your hand?

update: came home after school and it worked fine again, changed absolutely nothing, I think maybe the fluid got caught in the reverse detent pin and prevented it from fully engaging when I did the seal, I tilted it around a bunch so that might’ve done it, but all is good and have not had the problem since :)
