All,

1990 535i clutch would not return. Clutch goes to the floor, doesn't come back. Replaced the slave cylinder, can't get pressure back.

1. I manually depressed the slave cylinder plunger and verified fluid squirting out of the bleeder valve.

2. I reinstalled the slave cylinder, bleeder valve open, and confirmed fluid squirting out while my son depressed the clutch approximately 10 times. I noticed I started to get fluid dripping down from the reservoir.

3. I visually verified fluid leaking from the cap of the reservoir while he was depressing the clutch. I closed the bleeder valve, then had him depress the clutch a few more times. No leaking fluid from the cap now. But clutch still doesn't show pressure; doesn't return.

I suppose the cap has to get replaced, but if the cap is leaking with the bleeder valve open, wouldn't it still leak with the bleeder valve closed?

Thanks for any guidance.
