Hello,

I had my car inspected at my local BMW dealership for an ASC/ABS problem :
symptoms :
after reaching 50km/h, "ASC not active" pops on the dash.
ABS light is on
sometimes I can feel as if there were some sand grains in my brake pedal at low speed

BMW diagnosed a faulty LKM/ECE unit (they said they can't even connect to it) after finding water in this compartment due to obstructed water drains.
However they said they don't build this piece anymore but the mecanic told me if I can find a used one, they can recode it for me.
To be honest I don't really trust those guys and they don't seem very competent with old systems, so i'm asking the real guys' expertise here.

Question 1 :
Is this LKM/ECE unit responsible for ASC/ABS too ? I thought there were a dedicated ABS unit.

Question 2 :
Could this LKM/ECE problem be responsible for other electronics issues I face, like alarms going crazy for now reason while driving, or an inconsistant speed turn signal ?

Question 3 :
I found used LKM/ECE on Ebay with corresponding numbers, only the 3 last digits differ, is it normal ?

Question 4 :
Can someone tell me where those water drains are located and how to clean them ? I tried to look under the hood close to the unit compartment but didn't find anything that looks like it.

Thanks for your precious help and expertise.

LKM is Light Control Module, it controls headlight, taillights, f/r foglamps. ECE just means that your module is for European versions as oppposed to US LKM's. Somehow I don't think this will has anything to do with your ABS/ASC problem. The "sand grain" feeling is the ABS activating whilst you brake. Maybe there is a faulty wheel speed sensor that is not reading right.

That's what I thought.
It's insane how incompetent mecanics at BMW dealers are. And they charge 180€/hour for this kind of diagnostic ... omg

Then if that's not one of the ABS wheel sensors, how can I identify the source cause, since BMW doesn't seem to be able to diagnose.

Thanks for your help.
