Hello,

I just bought e34 520i and clutch pedal is not working. Car had been sitting for 2 years and clutch lines were probably empty, we bleed the system and nothing. Pedal goes down and comes back up but very softly. It could be either clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder.

I personally think its master cylinder because it doesn't make no pumping noise.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Forum!

You can try this out to see which one:

1. Open the bleeder valve on the slave and put you finger over it while open.
2. Gently have a buddy push down on the pedal, if no fluid or air escapes, it's the master.
3. If fluid or air escapes, it will be the slave, but first make sure all the air is out.

Good luck, as you don't find those cars up north not fully rotted out.

Then its master cylinder, any tips to replace it?

Be prepared to lay on your back, it can help to remove the driver's seat if you are a big dude. Just remember to unhook the battery if you do take the seat out.
