Found some alpine 18 inch staggered wheels for my ‘98 e39 M62 sedan
Fronts are 8.5 inches backs are 10 inches
What are the biggest tires (height) I can get away with without the fronts rubbing when I turn in the back spot out in the wheel well?
Stock suspension is what I’m running right now and will not change.
Anybody with any experience with this please share as 17 inch is all I have experienced.
TIA!

What are the biggest tires (height) I can get away with without the fronts rubbing when I turn as well as the back not topping out in the rear wheel well and/or rubbing inside the outsides of the wells?

Look on your driver's door pillar or your owner's manual.
E39 M5 is the only one with 18", and staggered.
The rest had 17" only.

Actually all of mine came with 16’s
Upgraded to 17’s on the ’01 fyi
I’ve seen on one of these forums where 18’s were not a problem
Looking for a tire size information
Thanks

The tire size information is on your driver's door pillar or your owner's manual.
What I meant was that except the M5, which had 18", from factory the biggest size in the other e39's was 17" from factory, they also came with smaller but never bigger than 17".

540’s also came from the factory with 18’s. The 2003 Msports came with 18’ style 37’s. There is a huge difference between style 37’s made for E39 vs style 37’s made for E38’s, E39 37 center hubs are 74.1mm, E 38’s were 72.5mm. E39 37’s offsets were also slight different from the E38’s, someone correct me if I’m wrong. The rear 37’s made for E38’s were 9.5” wide, vs 9” for E39’s.factory rear tires on 18” should 265/35/18, M5’s with the style 65’s came in 275/35/18, E38’s came with a taller side profile tire. Front tires for 540 and M5’s were both 245/40/18.

One more thing….. I have an ‘01 540 that came from Canada, a real deal Msport 540, for those that think you know, well, you don’t, but go ahead and flame away, I’ll happily school you if I feel like, anyway, the car was a special order that came with an M5 body shell, anthracite interior headliner and all the trimmings, the rear quarter panel wheel wells are exactly like the M5 quarters, no inner lips on the wheel wells, it has the M5 liners and everything, all factory original, even came with style 65’s. Regular 540’s have an inner fender well lip, you will rub with 275/35/18’s, that’s why they came with 265/35/18.

Based on the information I gathered sounds about right.
For my application 245 /40/R18 for fronts
and Rear’s will be 275/35/R18
This is the biggest I can go without any suspension modifications (which I will never do) I love the way these cars ride.
Turns out they will be the All Season (4) Michelin Pilot Sports I already have on the ‘01, just in different sizes.
I figured to sell even more cars the M-Sports would have just enough factory improvements to fill in the gap from the e39’s to the M5
All of my E39‘s came with 16 inch rims FYI
Thanks

Thanks for this. Didn’t order them yet. I’ll go with the 65’s then.
This is exactly what I was trying to find out.
245/40/ R/18’s should be OK on the front correct?
Pics?
Would love to see that car!
As a matter, fact, I’d love to park an E39, your car and an M5 all next to each other and just go over them with a fine tooth comb!
That would be cool as hell!
BTW what does flame away mean? LMAO! [emoji1787]

Well, it basically looks like an M5 but for the side mirrors, the limited slip, and all the frame stiffeners on the rear end, the seats, and the soul, the engine and the manual 6 spr. What blows my mind is that it came with the same shell for the rear wheel wells. The car now has 150,000 miles on it waiting for the chain guides to get redone. So it has not been ran for a little while. But picked up Jason’s ‘01 6spd 540 sport with all kinds of stuff done to it, car looks rough, but no rust, just needs paint work, came with coil overs, BC Racing with Swift springs, engine has the M60 intake manifold, a tune, chain guides already done, a stage 2 clutch, short shifter, M5 limited slip, a kickass sound system that actually sounds really good. Car runs really strong, no vanos crunch and ticks, shifts really good, the tires all suck, been doing crazy burnouts with them, lol, get some new tires on it in a week. Topaz blue and a full black interior, not a bad deal at all.

One more thing about the new old 540, something majorly wrong with it…. No oil leaks.

My 98 Montreal/beige I recently picked up supposedly had a small oil leak. Same thing-nope. Shocking!
Started out with the gremlins and the rear light warnings. turns out it’s either the bulb or a dirty connection. Easy fix. for now, I just tap on the rear light and it comes on. So far it has stayed on for about two weeks.
The Silver ‘01 every so often the license plate light flickers or is off when it should be on and then comes on after maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Ah the gremlins.
Jason‘s sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun when once you get rubber on all four corners.
Right now, I’m just waiting on all my wheels and rubber for the Montreal. Can’t wait to get those wheels and tires on!

Update wheels question;
I found a pair of 18 inch staggered style 32’s
Before I buy them, I wanted to know is anybody running those on the back of their 540 I with any problems? Thanks in advance.
Also, what’s the biggest tire size you’re running on there?
