View Full Version : Is this wiper arm sitting too high?

I just had my windshield replaced and when driving back home I noticed that I could see the end of the passenger's side wiper arm from behind the wheel. Got home and it seems to be sitting a bit too high, plus there seems to be about 2" of play at the end if I wiggle it to the point where it touches the other arm. I know the driver's arm has a chuck that you can adjust or replace, but that one is tight and seems to be in its correct resting position. Is there a way to adjust and tighten the articulated one?

Or is that looseness normal and I just simply didn't notice before? You can see a darker line where the base of the arm is faded and that should align with the hood. I'm asking because I'm an idiot and I don't want to blindly tinker with that and risk cracking a brand new windshield.

The pass side wiper is too high.
Mine is parallel to the black line and about 1.25” below the line.
I don’t have any play in either arm.

Thanks, Jim. I’ve been searching for a DIY on how to adjust it and tighten it. So far nothing.

Take if off the shaft, reset it down a little, and put the nut back on.

I tried to take it off this morning and I couldn't without risking the glass since I don't have the proper tool. In any case, I realized that the shop misplaced the original "zip ties" that hold the cabin air filter ducts in place (the old design) and also the little metal hook that holds the cabin filter housing, so I'm going back today... Ugh. Hope they didn't throw those things away. I'll have them readjust and tighten the wiper arm too.

That's why I don't like anyone touching my cars, but replacing a windshield is beyond my abilities.

If you bring the wiper arm to the raised position you'll have some leverage to wiggle it off the shaft.

You don’t have a puller? Pair of channel locks, loosen up the nut, but leave it on the shaft, place the channel lock pliers upside down, squeeze the sucker loose, squirt some liquid wrench to help pop it loose, might have to rotate the pliers a couple times to kinda work the arm loose.
