03 e39 520i speedometer not working, but no asc and abs light

Hi, i've searched and read about the trifecta problem, but mine is different, my speedometer sometimes works, when it is off there's no asc or abs light on.

I opened inpa and do live data tracking on the abs module, and all the abs sensors read the same speed

Is it loose cable problem? If it is, where should i check it?

Rear left wheel sensor sends data to the IKE for the speedo.

In addition to speedo, LR wheel speed sensor also sends data for tripmeter, radio auto-adjust volume, mpg gage.

If the wheel speed sensor checks out 'good', you may want to look next at the ignition switch, as this could affect the cluster function when it gets flakey.

Now, maybe try taking the ignition switch out, cleaning it with something like CRC Electronic Contact Cleaner, let it dry, and re-install and try it. With these cars' age and mileage, the ignition switch is a wear item.

Bad ignition switch symptoms. Clean as suggested above.

Do i need to sand it, as suggested in the diy links?or cleaning it just fine?

IME a bad LR wheel sensor doesn't trip the bifecta or trifecta. It just stops the speedo if it's shorting and starting to decay (frayed, mangled wires that aren't up to the task of sending uninterrupted data but aren't completely severed)

If you have INPA you can read the wheel speed sensor output and see if it's at least sending a signal
