I am super confused. I ordered a fuel pump from FCP EURO, OE part #16141182842. Got the part # from realoem.com by putting in my VIN. The fuel pump they delivered has two terminals while the one currently in my car has only one. See pictures for reference.

What fuel pump am i supposed to have? Can someone direct me to the correct part #?
Additionally the electrical tape around connector wire makes me suspect someone may have messed with the wiring in the past. Any clues?

My car has an M50, production date is 12/1994

Thank you in advance.

Looks strange huh :)

I'm going to venture a guess that you are looking at the drivers side tank access. That side only contains the siphon pump (no moving parts, no electricity) and the connector for the level sensor on that side. The actual fuel pump is on the passenger side.

When the fuel pump runs, the movement of fuel powers the siphon pump. Its job is to move fuel to the electric pump side. Fuel can slosh from one side to the other when you drive, but it is always moving from the drivers side to the passenger side thanks to the siphon pump.

What brand pump did you get? Any pics of the install?

When I first got my car it would act like it was running out of gas when the gauge said 1/4. I quickly learned about the siphon pump and that it can unplug itself from the level sensor housing so it was an easy fix. I also saw the electric pump had an ink "0" with an ink 8 inside the zero so assumed it was installed in 2008 and its still running!
