I'm in the market - so, 5er guys, convince me why I should get an e34 over an e36!

Well, what model? The E34 series is bigger. The E36 series is sportier. We're gonna' need more details on what you're looking for before we can make any recommendations.

Well I love the handling of the 92 325i (the only of the two I've driven), but it's a little small. I'm 6'6"... And I kinda like the classy look of the 5. However I'm all about performance first, then looks second... idk... I can't decide. Help!

If your after performance first, go with an e36 M3.

What's your budget?

If I had the money, I'd have an m3 in an instant. My budget is 4000. I can go a little over if there is a very compelling reason, but yeah, there you have it.

I hate to say it, but at $4,000 you're going to have a tough time finding ANY e36 in good condition. Even '92s tend to sell for that much or more if they've been well-maintained.

You shouldn't have too much difficulting finding an e34, but it's most likely going to be a 525i. Nothing wrong with that, but I think if you want "performance first", a BMW isn't the best choice at $4,000.

If you could expand your budget to maybe 5 or 6K you could get a nice E34. 535i/5 at that! I have had a few 3 series and some 6 series in the past, my present E34 is great, but yes, not the quickest off the line (but hey, I am working on that one). I'm also 6'05", and yes, the 5 series fits a little better as well.

Good luck at any rate.
