My 320xi has a musty smell coming out of the ac ducts. I talked to a shop and they told me how to find the air intake under the cowl below the windshield. They said there was a carbon filter in a housing under the cowl. I removed the cowl but couldn't find a filter. I did find the air intake and sprayed some disinfectant in it, which came into the car so I know that's the intake. I couldn't see how to easily remove the housing. The shop told me the carbon filter is about 4 " x 36" but the housing i found was no where near that big . I tried to look up the filter on several parts sites and all I could find was the cabin air filter.

Does the 2014 320xi have a carbon filter on the fresh air intake for the HVAC?

The carbon cabin filter is located in the passenger footwell area in that car. It requires removal of the small lower panel (a couple of nuts) and then removing the cover for the filter (T25 screws on a curved cover). Apparently that shop has never seen a BMW like this one before?

It should definitely be changed regularly.

thanks I've changed that cabin air filter about 3 times since I bought the car. I assume that these guys don't work on many 320s mostly higher end cars.
