Power Windows Behaving Erratically

Hey guys. My first post here i think! Big time e36 lover and own three of them at the moment.

One of my cars, a 1996 328i sedan has a long time problem of the windows behaving very strangely. If I press a switch up or down on any window, sometimes the window works fine, sometimes very slowly or not at all, and sometimes it operates a completely different window either up or down.

It's like the car is possessed. Anyone have this problem before or has it ever been covered?

I have a few spare window switches and they don't seem to make any difference. Should I just throw 4 new regulators/motors at it and hope it works?

Well you could do that or if you like to tinker the motor can be disassembled. The motor and worm drive can be slide out of the gearbox, the brushes can be assessed and the commutator can be cleaned also the solid bare wires can be cleaned (use a toothbrush) and electric cleaner or wd40.
