Please help. 1998 BMW 328i convertible. M52 engine. Stalls randomly after driving 1-2 miles. We wait about 10 seconds, car starts right back up.
Replaced camshaft position sensor, vanos valve, fuel pump assembly. Tested the battery with a battery tester, it shows good. Tested the alternator, it shows about 14 volts, so it's good too. Fresh oil, clean gas.
Car originally showed P0340 code, it is now gone with the new Cam pos sensor.
When running, the car has good power, no knocks, misfires or anything.
Codes have been reset and no new codes are showing on the OBD2.
Thanks in advanced guys

On those models I've seen them stall plenty of times when a crankshaft position sensor is bad, without any warning. Only use high quality sensors for those.

Wouldn't that throw a code when going bad?

not necessarily - i generally recommend BMW sensors only for critical parts like this....

Solved! It was the crankshaft position sensor. Replaced with new unit and runs and drives great. We weren't sure if we would need the new wiring harness for it, but this car had the new style sensor, so no new harness needed.
